Promotion and development
Part of ‘Room to be yourself’ is to give our people ‘Room to grow’ ? where we commit to supporting people in their role and pursue a rewarding career with IHG. We also offer our employees opportunities to broaden their horizon by making sure they are the first to see worldwide vacancies.
Company culture
Everyone at IHG is focused on creating Great Hotels Guests Love. Regardless of where our people work ? in a hotel or in a corporate office ? we pull together as one company with this one goal. To make sure that we all share the same purpose of creating Great Hotels Guests Love we have made a commitment to our people that we will create an environment and culture where they give their best and make a difference. We call this ‘Room to be yourself’ ? which means that we make promises about the way the people join our company, how we involve them with the company, develop, reward and recognise them. In our recent worldwide employee survey, 92% of our employees responded across 59 countries and in 27 languages to tell us that we have delivered on our commitment. They are also really proud to work for the company and they are strong advocates of our business, recommending us to friends and family as a great place to work.
Environment and sustainability
Joining IHG is an opportunity to make a difference to our guests, the communities in which we operate and, more broadly, the planet. We have taken many initiatives and established key priorities around the world, including a clear strategy for how we work together to benefit the environment and the many communities we serve. For example, in 2008 we donated £34m in support of community initiatives and charitable causes.
We continue to work hard to demonstrate we are a responsible hotelier and evaluate everything in the life-cycle of a hotel, from site and design to management and operations, to take advantage of those opportunities.
