Centrica is a leading integrated energy company with growing businesses in the UK and North America. We operate under the British Gas name in England, supplying gas, electricity and low-carbon products and services to residential and business customers. Centrica Energy and Centrica Storage play a key role in supporting our customers by generating electricity and producing, sourcing and storing gas.
Pay and benefits
Our benefits package is made up of core benefits (a pension scheme and company holiday entitlements) and a flexible benefits spending account. All employees have access to a range of discounted products and services. In addition, the group has a number of employee share schemes.
Promotion and development
We invest £30 million in training and development activities across the group each year. Our aim is to develop our leadership capability and to help our people reach their full potential.
Company culture
We believe that a diverse and inclusive workplace with a culture of trust and respect is the most productive working environment and that we can achieve this when employees are empowered and engaged in decision-making.
Diversity, social responsibility
We operate in increasingly diverse communities both in the UK and internationally and this diversity is evident in our workforce and our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. Understanding the impact of our business on society and the environment, and responding accordingly, is fundamental to Centrica’s strategy.
Environment and sustainability
We are committed to a low-carbon energy future and to securing energy supplies. We do this by sourcing and producing energy from cleaner sources, reducing wasted energy and developing and deploying new technology. We have already exceeded our 2012 target for reducing the carbon intensity of power supplied to British Gas customers. It is the lowest of any major energy supplier in Britain.
Innovation
From fuel cell boilers to the largest UK trial of smart meters, we’re pioneering new ways to help our customers cut their energy usage. In 2008, the energy efficiency measures we provided to homes delivered lifetime carbon savings of 17.87 million tonnes.
